Mental Health Awareness and Sensitization
Worthy Plan Empowerment Initiative has continued to provide mental health and psychosocial support in Rann, Jere and Damboa through sensitization, awareness, and referrals across camp and host communities.
During this reporting period, outpatient curative consultations were carried out in the camp and health facility in Rann with the support of community health volunteers and a Roving Psychologist.
A total of 1,604 beneficiaries were reached with the aforementioned interventions, with the
following breakdown and segregations. In Rann (Boys 93, Girls 155, Men 115, and Women 147) while 510 individuals were reached through speaker sensitization and awareness. In Damboa, (Boys 61, Girls 115, Men 115, and Women 134) were reached with mental health key messages to promote mental well-being and 425 individuals were reached through speaker messages on mental health. In Jere, custom house IDP camp, madinatu and El-miskin camps (Boys 129, Girls 145, Men 100, and Women 144) and 669 individuals were reached with mental health key messages to promote mental well-being, and also received support items, the beneficiaries were supported with Mosquito nets and other items.
Challenges:
- Performing the projects from self-funding, hence some mental health services are
weighty on WPEI to execute. - Network and power issues most time affect reporting from Rann due to its location.
- Community Volunteers are not informed on mental health activities.
Recommendations:
- Capacity building for community volunteers.
- Coordinate with partners with solar panel to enhance power generation to power
laptops and phones for prompt reporting. - Coordinate with the health sector and other partners for possible funding hence the
mental health services are weighty for WPEI to execute.
