MHPSS-sensitization-and-awareness-Jere-LGA-BORNO
Worthy Plan Empowerment Initiative has continued to provide mental health and psychosocial support in Custom House IDP Camp, Madinatu IDP Camp and El-Miskin IDP Camp in Jere Local Government Area of Borno State, NorthEast Nigeria, through sensitization, awareness, and
referrals across camp and host communities. During this reporting period, outpatient curative consultations were carried out in the camps and
health facilities in the above-mentioned camps in Jere LGA with the support of community health volunteers and a Roving Psychologist.
A total of 4,346 beneficiaries were reached with the aforementioned interventions, with the following breakdown and segregations. In Custom House, Madinatu and EI-Miskin IDPs Camps in Jere LGA (Boys 920, Girls 1,211, Men 776, and Women 1439) while 1,509 individuals were reached through speaker messages on mental health sensitization and awareness, mental health key messages to promote mental well-being, Also beneficiaries were given support items such as Liquid Soap and Mosquito nets.
Challenges:
- Performing the projects from self-funding, hence some mental services are weighty on Worthy Plan to execute.
- Network and power issues most time affect reporting from madinatu, custom house and El-miskin idp camps due to its location.
- Community Volunteers are not informed on mental health activities.
Recommendations:
- Capacity building for community volunteers.
- Coordinate with partners with a solar panel to enhance power generation to power laptop and phones for prompt reporting.
- Coordinate with the health sector and other partners for possible funding.
